    Hi all,

By now you may have seen Twitter's announcement that they will be removing legacy verified checkmarks as of 1 April, unless you switch to a paid Twitter Blue subscription.

Just wondering whether any decisions have been made in your own individual agencies about what action to take? @Tim Price - are you aware of any WoAG advice being sought?

    Thanks all - Happy Monday!

    Janelle

Hey Janelle - that really sucks - not a great move from Twitter - Will have to find out what we are going to do. They are basically forcing us to pay though to remain verified.

Hi Janelle - from what I understand Twitter will just be removing the blue checkmarks - which have less and less meaning these days - but government will still retain the grey checkmark as a verified government account and will not need to pay for that.

Hmm - are you sure? I'm reading it as they are removing any of the previous Verified checkmarks - which include both blue and grey - unless you sign up for a paid subscription under the new Verified program.

    :/

That's not how I read it - I'm going to email Twitter Australia and see what they say.

I was going to say - we need Twitter contacts in Australia! I didn't realise there was an email channel we could go through. Thanks Tim, I'm crossing my fingers that you're correct here.

We're not getting any response from the Twitter Australian contact either.

Hey everybody - Twitter has confirmed we retain our grey checkmark following April 1st - may send out an email tomorrow for anyone who is confused about this.

Well that's good news! Yes would be good to know if they had any further detail, particularly for those of us who still have the blue checkmark or none at all. I assume we just need to get our online application for a grey checkmark in to Twitter ASAP!

Thanks Tim for following it up.

    Thanks Janelle and Tim.

I think one of the tricky things here is that not all of government accounts are grey. Our main corporate channel is grey, but our science channel is legacy blue, and our tech channel has no checkmark. We also have several other twitter channels in our department that have legacy blue or no checkmark at all. They are all government channels, but Twitter hasn't recognised them as such. To my knowledge, we don't have control over these designations, only Twitter does. So it's a bit worrisome if they make changes that will impact our supporting or niche government channels being displayed in feeds.
